VisualsSpeak® grew out of Christine Martell’s passion for collecting photos and her interest in using visual images as a powerful tool for unlocking the deep truths that reside in our minds.
While working toward a master’s degree in education at Portland State University, Christine found herself immersed in the left-brained culture of academia and business. She realized that the linear world in which business operates largely ignores the truths that can be discovered by engaging the right side of our brain.
In 2003, she began to develop a tool-set of images that focus on the intuitive in addition to the rational. Her goal was to build a bridge between the right and left sides of our brains, providing people with a richer set of data from which to make decisions.
Since 2003, Christine has tested the VisualsSpeak approach on a wide variety of audiences to see what images people are drawn to, to learn how people benefit from using the tool, and to make the tool accessible, engaging and fun to use. The culmination of this work is the VisualsSpeak ImageSet, a set of 200 photographs designed to serve as a powerful self-discovery tool.
