<p><a href="http://christophniemann.com/">Christoph Niemann</a> is an award winning  illustrator who&#8217;s work has appeared in, and on the cover of, a variety of publications including The New Yorker, Newsweek, Wired, The New York Times Magazine and American Illustration. He&#8217;s also behind a semi-regular column on the New York Times&#8217; site entitled &#8220;Abstract City&#8221; where he uses his skills to visually tell snippets of big city stories in visual form.</p>
<p><center>
<p style="textalign: center;"><a href="http://niemann.blogs.nytimes.com/2010/03/10/my-way/"><img class="alignnone size-thumbnail wp-image-1943" title="18harmony" src="http://vizthink.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/03/18harmony-150x150.jpg" alt="" width="150" height="150" /></a> <a href="http://niemann.blogs.nytimes.com/2010/03/10/my-way/"><img class="alignnone size-thumbnail wp-image-1944" title="22highway" src="http://vizthink.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/03/22highway-150x150.jpg" alt="" width="150" height="150" /></a> <a href="http://niemann.blogs.nytimes.com/2010/03/10/my-way/"><img class="alignnone size-thumbnail wp-image-1946" title="13spider" src="http://vizthink.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/03/13spider-150x150.jpg" alt="" width="150" height="150" /></a></p>
<p></center>
<p>In his <a href="http://niemann.blogs.nytimes.com/2010/03/10/my-way/">most recent post</a> he&#8217;s taken design elements most commonly seen in in online mapping tools like Google Maps and twisted them to convey a short &#8217;story&#8217; or situation.</p>
<p>I&#8217;ve embedded &#8220;Omelet&#8221; below &#8211; <a href="http://niemann.blogs.nytimes.com/2010/03/10/my-way/">click through</a> to see all of his images over on the New York Times site. Some are clear and obvious, others a little more subtle (&#8220;Chewing Gum&#8221; is a personal favorite) &#8211; either way they&#8217;re a fun but compelling example of how very basic visuals can be used to tell a story effectively.</p>
<p> <center>
